Accessibility Statement

AKILA wants everyone to be able to browse, learn about and buy our eyewear on akila.la, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology. We take accessibility seriously and treat it as ongoing work, not a one-time project.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard referenced by the Americans with Disabilities Act and California law.

What we have done

In September 2026 we completed an accessibility audit of akila.la and corrected the issues it found in our site code, including:

• Every menu, filter, cart panel and the prescription-lens ordering flow can be operated with a keyboard alone. Panels announce themselves to screen readers when they open, and keyboard focus returns to where you were when they close.
• Buttons and links have descriptive names, and product images carry descriptions that identify the product and colour.
• Text and background colours meet WCAG contrast requirements.
• Videos that play automatically can be paused, and they start paused for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion.
• We test with automated tools (WAVE and axe) and by hand with a keyboard and screen reader, and we re-test whenever we change the site.

Known limitations

Some parts of the shopping experience are provided by other companies and are outside our direct control:

• Sign-in, account pages and checkout are provided by Shopify.
• The chat window and the product-photo notification widget are provided by third-party apps.

We pass accessibility concerns about these components to their providers. If any of them prevents you from completing a task, contact us and we will help you complete it another way.

Compatibility

akila.la is designed to work with current versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge, and with screen readers including VoiceOver, NVDA and JAWS.
